Backflow Testing Information

water

The City of Prineville monitors and enforces Oregon State regulations to prevent cross‑connections within the public water system. In accordance with Oregon Administrative Rule, properties must have approved backflow prevention assemblies on their service lines and irrigation systems. These assemblies must be maintained and tested annually by a certified backflow tester, with results submitted to the City of Prineville.

Backflow Testing

For questions about installations, certified testers, or approved assemblies, contact City Hall at 541-447-5627. A list of certified testers is provided at the bottom of this page.

Some properties have multiple backflow devices. Property owners are responsible for testing backflow devices on irrigation systems and all commercial properties; the City does not provide testing for these systems.

Each year, the City of Prineville sends reminder letters for irrigation backflow testing, which is required by state and local regulations.

Property Owner Responsibilities:

  • Hire a certified backflow tester.
  • Ensure testing is completed annually.
  • Ensure test results are sent to the City’s Utilities Services Department.

Most testers will submit results on your behalf, but the property owner is ultimately responsible for ensuring compliance.
